A fun story is that a lot of the places that have paid me to write over the years now no longer exist!

While I’m blessed that this deep dive into literary face-touching remains somewhat preserved, I grieve that my video mashup of the Sex & the City theme and scenes from Hocus Pocus no longer seems to be online. While some got captured via internet archive magic, and others may exist in some form in the catacombs of my ancient laptop, we can agree it’s probably best to look forward.

OK fine, one more look back: You can still watch old episodes the craft web series Do It, Gurl, that I helped produced for a couple years. Hosted by the fabulous Jamie Petitto, it was a joy to be a part of this corner of the internet that encouraged creativity over many episodes.

(Random aside: I guess also technically I was “paid” when I placed 4th in the 2015 NYC Midnight Screenwriting Challenge, because there was a small cash prize; proof of this achievement will remain on my fridge until death, either mine or the appliance.)

But anyway…

Yes, while some of my goofier stuff is harder to find online these days, I spent almost four years working as a digital producer at Vermont Public Radio — and I’m really thankful that this meaningful journalism work is still accessible.

Now, I admittedly don’t have a lot of bylines because most of what I did there on the daily was edit, edit, edit — but I can direct you toward people who can definitely assure you that I worked a lot of hours there fretting over if the copy was the cleanest it could be.

As far as special projects, I’m particularly proud of work I did around elections, from Town Meeting Day coverage to last-minute voter guides. I also got to do a video project about Alison Bechdel, which was a pretty awesome opportunity.

While at VPR, the newsroom received a national Edward R. Murrow Award for overall excellence which was obviously awesome — but psst, a secret is that I was even prouder of the regional Murrow for multimedia that was awarded to our tiny lil team.

If you want to wade in the social media world, if it appeared on the VPR Twitter from June 2017-January 2020 there’s a high chance I wrote it (percentage slightly raised if there is a weird GIF included).
